The sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Floyd & Green, located at 515 Silver Bluff Road.
“A year ago, we weren’t even in this business; we sort of backed into it through our appraising business. We’d always worked with lawyers and estates, because we have an AGS Certified Appraiser, and from time to time a family would say, ‘make us an offer,’ or, ‘we don’t want to fight over the jewelry pieces; just sell them for us.’ But this last year, so many people have been selling their gold because of the high cost of precious metals now, and so many of the pieces we got were too nice to just melt down,” said Floyd & Green co-owner Steve Floyd. “We were buying so much gold, and getting so much estate jewelry, that it just got that big, that fast. we went from zero to 15 linear feet of trade and estate showcases every day.”
The local pieces featured in this weekend’s sale will remain in the store’s inventory, but the Marcus & co. pieces are here for a limited time only, Floyd said. The centerpiece of the estate collection is an Art Nouveau opal and diamond brooch, 6 by 41âÑ2 centimeters, valued at $88,000. The brooch was featured in the book “Masterpieces of American Jewelry,” and was included in a 100-piece exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum in new York.
“In our industry, the Marcus & co. collection is pretty famous, and to be included in this book, that’s pretty special,” Floyd said. “Trade-in and estate jewelry is now our no. 1 product category in our store; people love the history of previously owned pieces. we wish we knew more of the stories that went with some of these pieces. It’s been fun watching it develop.”

An estate sale is like a garage sale, the person who owned all the things died. all the stuff left over from what the family members want. I believe the insurance (or someone) sells the rest of the things, and called an estate sale. So you have estate jewelry, was jewelry bought at an estate sale.
